“Christians at worship do not pray against some things or persons but,\u00a0 like Christ, they always pray for all persons and all things, leaving him who sees into hearts and motives to be their judge.”
\n– Aidan Kavanagh,\u00a0Elements of Rite <\/em>(Liturgical Press 1990), 79.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even though Kavanagh wrote those words about General Intercessions in the liturgy, his words apply to all Christian prayers.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, thousands of Polish Catholics surrounded the country to form a human prayer chain and prayed for world peace. Even though this was pure in intention, this prayer day was hijacked<\/a> by some to use the rosary as a weapon to “save Europe from Islam.”<\/p>\n

Prayer should never be about the oppression of another group of people. The rosary should never be used as a weapon against anyone. Prayer should be for the betterment of all persons and the entire world. Prayer should be to end violence, not to encourage hate (as were the original intentions of The Rosary of the Borders).<\/p>\n

As Pope Francis said<\/a>, “We must be clear and unequivocal in challenging our communities to live fully the tenets of peace and coexistence found in each religion.”<\/p>\n
