The planning meeting began in Collegeville yesterday for the 2011 national symposium on Lay Ecclesial Ministry. Present are Archbishop Gregory Aymond, Bishop Blase Cupich, and Bishop Michael Hoeppner. Co-sponsoring organizations sending representatives are the Bernardin Center<\/a>, Canon Law Society of America<\/a>, Association of Graduate Programs in Ministry<\/a>, Center for Ministry Development<\/a>, Federacion de Institutes Pastorales, Illuminare<\/a>, Instituto Fe y Vida<\/a>, Minnesota Catholic Education Association<\/a>, National Association of Catholic Chaplains<\/a>, National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders<\/a>, National Association of Pastoral Musicians<\/a>, National Catholic Education Association<\/a>, Ministry Training Source<\/a>, National Association for Lay Ministry<\/a>\/Emerging Models of Pastoral Leadership Project, National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministers<\/a>, National Association of Diaconate Directors<\/a>, National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry<\/a>, National Catholic Young Adult Ministry Association<\/a>, National Conference of Catechetical Leadership<\/a>, National Federation of Priests’ Councils<\/a>, National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy<\/a>, USCCB Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life & Youth<\/a>, National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry<\/a>, National Leadership Roundtable of Church Management<\/a>, Northeast Hispanic Catholic Center<\/a>, Tekakwitha Conference<\/a>, USCCB Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church<\/a>, USCCB Commission on Certification and Accreditation<\/a>, diocesan representatives from every diocese in Minnesota, participants in the Collegeville Ministry Seminar II, Aquinas Institute, College of Saint Scholastica, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Saint Mary’s in Winona, Boston College, Berkeley Jesuit School of Theology, Loyala University New Orleans, Loyala Marymount University, Saint Catherine’s University, University of Dayton, Villanova University, Washington Theological Union, and representatives of Saint John’s Abbey and University School of Theology\u2022Seminary.<\/p>\n

The first national symposium on “lay ecclesial ministry” was held in Collegeville in 2007<\/a> – see\u00a0a report on it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The conference began yesterday with the following prayer which was said by the participants of Vatican II at the beginning of each session.<\/p>\n

We stand before you, Holy Spirit,
\nconscious of our sinfulness,
\nbut aware that we gather in your name.
\nCome to us, remain with us,
\nand enlighten our hearts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Give us light and strength to know your will,
\nto make it our own,
\nand to live it in our lives.
\nGuide us by your wisdom;
\nsupport us by your power;
\nfor you are God,
\nsharing the glory of Father and Son.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You desire justice for all:
\nenable us to uphold the rights of others;
\ndo not allow us to be misled by ignorance
\nor corrupted by fear or favor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unite us to yourself in the bond of love
\nand keep us faithful to all that is true.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As we gather in your name,
\nmay we temper justice with love,
\nso that all our decisions may be pleasing to you,
\nand earn the reward promised
\nto good and faithful servants.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You live and reign with the Father and the Son,
