At the pastoral musicians’ lunch of the recent NPM convention<\/a>, these awards were given out:<\/p>\n

\"Cortez\"<\/a>Pastoral Musician of the Year to Jaime Cortez,<\/strong> composer and arranger and music director at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mesa, Arizona. Some of his best-known compositions are \u201cRain Down<\/a>,\u201d \u201cSomos el Cuerpo de Cristo\/We Are the Body of Christ\u201d (with Bob Hurd), and \u201cToday Our Savior Is Born.\u201d Born in New York and raised in El Salvador, Jaime is fluent in Spanish and has dedicated a portion of his ministry to promoting better Hispanic liturgies and bringing cultures together for worship. His main instrument is guitar, though he is proficient in piano and other string instruments, such as charango, vihuela and bass guitar. He holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in music composition from Arizona State University. He lives in Mesa with his wife and their three musically talented sons.<\/p>\n

\"DiNardo\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Jubilate Deo Award to Cardinal Daniel DiNardo,\u00a0<\/strong>archbishop of Galveston-Houston and Episcopal Liaison of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to NPM. \u00a0DiNardo was bishop of Sioux City, IA before becoming archbishop of Galveston-Houston. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2007, the first cardinal from a diocese in the southern U.S.\u00a0On November 12, 2013, he was elected as the Vice President of the USCCB. He has served as NPM’s liaison to the USCCB since 2003.<\/sup><\/p>\n

Scholarships<\/strong> totally $21,000 were given to 13 young people.<\/p>\n

Through the generosity of the Paluch Family Foundation and World Library Publications, Steven Warner and the Notre Dame Folk Choir, and NPM members, 14 people were given assistance with registration, transportation, and housing, enabling them to attend this year’s NPM convention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
