William Bornhoft is a young Catholic in St. Paul, MN, and <a href=\"http:\/\/aleteia.org\/2016\/02\/27\/against-liturgy-shaming\/\" target=\"_blank\">over at Aleteia he explains<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>the group exists in part to curate the names of renegade parishes and liturgical horror stories. The posts are often accompanied with photographic evidence, usually something shocking or cringe-worthy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bornhoft&#8217;s point, though, is that on-line shaming isn&#8217;t the proper Christian\u00a0way to deal with lapses in taste. There&#8217;s plenty to cringe at in Catholic liturgy, he rightly says &#8211; but our response to it should take\u00a0the high road. He writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Catholics must avoid using the brute force of the Internet to \u201cexpose\u201d liturgical problems and shame the offending parishes. It is both uncharitable and impractical \u2014uncharitable because we often wrongly assume the worst rather than the best intentions of the parish (\u201cthey\u2019re heretics\u201d; \u201cthis isn\u2019t allowed in the Church\u201d; \u201cthey must not care for God or the Eucharist\u201d) without knowing anything about it. It is impractical because viral shaming campaigns are not a realistic method of reform or correction in the Catholic Church.
