{"id":32481,"date":"2016-02-19T12:19:10","date_gmt":"2016-02-19T18:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=32481"},"modified":"2016-02-19T12:19:10","modified_gmt":"2016-02-19T18:19:10","slug":"did-pope-francis-sign-on-to-a-declaration-implicitly-critical-of-the-ordinariates-founding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2016\/02\/19\/did-pope-francis-sign-on-to-a-declaration-implicitly-critical-of-the-ordinariates-founding\/","title":{"rendered":"Did Pope Francis Sign on to A Declaration Implicitly Critical of the Ordinariate&#8217;s Founding?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As has been widely reported, Pope Francis and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met in Havana, Cuba on February 12 to sign a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.radiovaticana.va\/news\/2016\/02\/12\/joint_declaration_of_pope_francis_and_patriarch_kirill\/1208117\" target=\"_blank\">historic joint declaration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The topic was Catholic-Orthodox relations, including the relationship between Greek Catholics and Orthodox faithful in Russia and the Ukraine. In all this, I\u2019m pretty sure no one had the Ordinariate (for former members of the Anglican Communion coming into the Roman Catholic Church) in mind.<\/p>\n<p>But wouldn&#8217;t the principle stated in no. 25 of the Russian Orthodox-Catholic declaration (emphasis mine) apply also\u00a0to the Ordinariate ?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>25. It is our hope that our meeting may also contribute to reconciliation wherever tensions exist between Greek Catholics and Orthodox. <strong>It is today clear that the past method of \u201cuniatism,\u201d understood as the union of one community to the other, separating it from its Church, is not the way to re\u2013establish unity.
