A few weeks ago Fr. Cantalamessa, a Capuchin and preacher of the papal household, delivered the papal sermon for the Liturgy of the Lord\u2019s Passion<\/a> in St. Peter\u2019s Basilica. After listening to snippets from his homily that day, I thought I would see if I could find more examples of his preaching. After all, as the preacher of the papal household he must be modeling Pope Francis\u2019 vision for preaching in the Church. A few Google searches later and I found an interesting website that I thought I would share under this series: Catholic Homily Resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At first glance, it seemed as though this website provides your run-of-the-mill canned homilies. However, after further review it became clear that this is not the case. The website is quite comprehensive and provides you with links to background information on the readings for Mass. Two resources worth noting in this regard are 1) Dr. Scott Hahn\u2019s \u201cBreaking the Bread<\/a>\u201d series from the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, and 2) the Bible Studies series<\/a> from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The website also includes sample homilies from Fr. Cantalamessa and from Fr. Thomas Rosica CSB, the CEO of Salt and Light.<\/p>\n

Catholic Homily Resources also has a link to papal homilies archived on Vatican.va<\/a>, which if you have not noticed has been substantially redone.<\/p>\n

This resource could be helpful to many preachers in need of a little inspiration when composing their homilies. Perhaps this resource will be yet another helpful tool in your tool belt, or the tool belt of your pastor.<\/p>\n
