{"id":27188,"date":"2014-09-04T12:26:41","date_gmt":"2014-09-04T17:26:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=27188"},"modified":"2024-09-26T18:36:41","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T23:36:41","slug":"non-solum-the-dismissal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2014\/09\/04\/non-solum-the-dismissal\/","title":{"rendered":"<i>Non Solum:<\/i> The Dismissal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Roman Missal<\/em> provides several dismissals for the end of Mass:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cGo forth, the Mass is ended.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cGo and announce the Gospel of the Lord.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cGo in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cGo in peace.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In my experience, the first dismissal is overused. In reflecting on the dismissal, I wonder if certain dismissals are more appropriate to specific liturgical seasons, rites, and celebrations? For instance, perhaps \u201cGo and announce the Gospel of the Lord\u201d is most apt during Advent and Christmas as we await the coming of our Lord and then celebrate his arrival. \u201cGo in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life\u201d or the simplified \u201cGo in peace\u201d might best be used during Lent or after a Mass of Reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>I wish that we were more discerning in our usage of the dismissal. While it is a small component of the Mass, it carries an immense burden. It reminds us that our celebration of the Eucharist is deeply connected to the rest of our lives.<\/p>\n<p>Do you have a preferred dismissal?
