Pray Tell has as its subtitle \u201cWorship, wit and wisdom.\u201d In the light of the ever increasing loss of life in Gaza, I thought a post calling attention to this conflict would be in order. It is my prayer that in our wisdom we may pursue every avenue to bring to a halt this terrible conflict, which affects many families who have no direct part in it?<\/p>\n

Our prayer and liturgical celebrations cannot ignore the pain that is currently being experienced by Christians in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No, it won\u2019t do<\/strong>*<\/p>\n

No, it won\u2019t do<\/p>\n

to claim that dwellings<\/p>\n

hide the threat of fire,<\/p>\n

or a hospital<\/p>\n

the resting place<\/p>\n

for lethal activity<\/p>\n

that must be subdued,<\/p>\n

or a family<\/p>\n

when told to leave didn\u2019t,<\/p>\n

couldn\u2019t,<\/p>\n

for there was nowhere else<\/p>\n

to go.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No,<\/p>\n

it will not do,<\/p>\n

as smoke clouds rise<\/p>\n

above the rubble<\/p>\n

of city streets,<\/p>\n

lit red with the flash<\/p>\n

of in-coming shells.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Amid this rumbling roar<\/p>\n

of attrition, comes<\/p>\n

a wailing siren-scream<\/p>\n

as casualties are lifted<\/p>\n

from the gathered dust<\/p>\n

and broken-hearted Mothers<\/p>\n

weep for their children,<\/p>\n

held lifeless,<\/p>\n

in their outstretched arms.<\/p>\n

No,<\/p>\n

it will not do.<\/p>\n

neither this week<\/p>\n

nor next month,<\/p>\n

for life to be lost<\/p>\n

through the intransigence<\/p>\n

of stubborn men,<\/p>\n

repaying anger<\/p>\n

with<\/p>\n

further anger,<\/p>\n

losing sight<\/p>\n

of the final cost.<\/p>\n

There on a narrow,<\/p>\n

coastal strip of land<\/p>\n

caught<\/p>\n

between hot desert sand<\/p>\n

and cooling sea,<\/p>\n

cries conscience.<\/p>\n
