{"id":26468,"date":"2014-06-29T17:08:20","date_gmt":"2014-06-29T22:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=26468"},"modified":"2014-06-29T17:08:20","modified_gmt":"2014-06-29T22:08:20","slug":"conflict-in-iraq-imperils-christian-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2014\/06\/29\/conflict-in-iraq-imperils-christian-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Conflict in Iraq Imperils Christian Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reports forwarded to me from Christians in Iraq suggest that the latest round of conflict in the country may spell the end of one of Christianity\u2019s oldest and most important Christian communities.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this week, Qaraqosh, one of the last safe havens for Christians in Iraq, was largely ignored by extremist fighters from ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). This week, however, the situation changed and many of Qaraqosh\u2019s residents have now fled the city. Mosul, another important city with a long Christian legacy, has also been captured by ISIS.<\/p>\n<p>Here is <a href=\"https:\/\/news.vice.com\/video\/the-battle-for-iraq-dispatch-5\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> explaining the situation in Qaraqosh. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/they-want-to-cleanse-the-christians-10000-flee-christian-communities-in-northern-iraq-as-isis-takes-over-mosul-says-unhcr-122383\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Christian Post<\/a> reports that 10,000 Christians in the region have been displaced.
