Four years after the\u00a0promulgation of Pope Benedict XVI’s\u00a0Apostolic Constitution, Anglicanorum Coetibus<\/em>, the\u00a0leader of the ordinariate in England and Wales admits that it’s not growing.<\/p>\n

A recent article<\/a> in The Tablet<\/em> quotes Msgr. Keith Newton in his Chrism Mass homily:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be honest and say the ordinariate has not grown as much as we hoped it might. The vision has not been caught \u2026 We must communicate our message much more widely and with more vigour and enthusiasm.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While receiving a fair amount of attention, the ordinariate has always been a very small group. Various sources place the current membership of the ordinariate in England and Wales at a mere 1,500, but with a relatively high number of priests at 85. That’s roughly one priest for every eighteen people! It seems that\u00a0Anglicanorum Coetibus <\/em>has wooed far more clergy than laity.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the\u00a0ordinariate just published it’s first official liturgical book,\u00a0Divine Worship: Occasional Services<\/em><\/a>, which was released at the end of March. The ordinariate also published a slightly-less-than official liturgical volume, The Customary of Our Lady of Walsingham<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in 2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
