{"id":21372,"date":"2013-09-19T10:22:34","date_gmt":"2013-09-19T16:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=21372"},"modified":"2013-10-06T08:13:48","modified_gmt":"2013-10-06T13:13:48","slug":"the-big-interview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2013\/09\/19\/the-big-interview\/","title":{"rendered":"The big pope interview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a all over the web already, and rightly so, since it&#8217;s a big story. <a href=\"http:\/\/americamagazine.org\/pope-interview\" target=\"_blank\">Pope Francis has given a long interview<\/a> to <em>America <\/em>magazine, filled with blunt statements. Most people will be interested, for good reason, in his belief that the Church can&#8217;t be &#8220;obsessed&#8221; with a few issues like abortion, gay marriage, and contraception, or his candid admission that he was too heavy-handed many years ago as a Jesuit superior, or his statement that \u201cthis church with which we should be thinking is the home of all, not a small chapel that can hold only a small group of selected people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Readers of this blog will be interested in what Francis said about liturgy:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Vatican II was a re-reading of the Gospel in light of contemporary culture. Vatican II produced a renewal movement that simply comes from the same Gospel. Its fruits are enormous. Just recall the liturgy. The work of liturgical reform has been a service to the people as a re-reading of the Gospel from a concrete historical situation. Yes, there are hermeneutics of continuity and discontinuity, but one thing is clear: the dynamic of reading the Gospel, actualizing its message for today\u2014which was typical of Vatican II\u2014is absolutely irreversible. Then there are particular issues, like the liturgy according to the V<em>etus Ordo [&#8220;old order&#8221;]<\/em>. I think the decision of Pope Benedict [his decision of July 7, 2007, to allow a wider use of the Tridentine Mass] was prudent and motivated by the desire to help people who have this sensitivity. What is worrying, though, is the risk of the ideologization of the <em>Vetus Ordo<\/em>, its exploitation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Discuss. Rita also posted on this.
