COLLEGEVILLE, MINNESOTA (June 2013)\u2014Following the recent death of Fr. R. Kevin Seasoltz, OSB on April 27, 2013, Saint John\u2019s Abbey is pleased to announce that Bernadette Gasslein has been named interim editor of Worship magazine.<\/p>\n
Bernadette brings with her twenty-one years of experience as editor of Celebrate!, Canada\u2019s award-winning pastoral liturgy magazine. She earned an S.T.L. in theology with specialization in pastoral catechetics from l\u2019Institut Catholique de Paris. Her m\u00e9moire analyzed 270 Marian hymns published in Canada in English and French between 1970 and 1975; her research was published in the December 1978 issue of Le Suppl\u00e9ment. She has written a number of hymn texts, including \u201cIn the Darkness Shines the Splendour\u201d and the prize-winning \u201cO First-Born Daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bernadette conceived and developed the fifteen-volume Preparing the Liturgy series copublished by Novalis and Liturgical Press in the late 1990s. In 2009, she and Nancy Reeves published Gifts of the Eucharist (Ave Maria Press). Bernadette\u2019s latest books are The Mass Step-by-Step (Novalis, 2011) and Living with the Prayers of the Mass (Novalis, 2013). Bernadette has also translated Joseph Gelineau\u2019s Les chants de la messe dans leur enracinement rituel in Liturgical Assembly, Liturgical Song (Pastoral Press, 2002) and several books by Canadian priest-psychologist John Monbourquette.<\/p>\n
Bernadette\u2019s articles have appeared in the National Bulletin on Liturgy, Pastoral Music, and Envision Church. She currently contributes a monthly column to the Prairie Messenger and is a regular contributor to Give Us This Day. She served for two terms on the National Council for Liturgy and for four years was a project specialist in the National Office of Religious Education of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.<\/p>\n
Bernadette is well known as an engaging presenter and facilitator who has led workshops across Canada, and she continues to be involved in music ministry in her parish in Edmonton, Alberta. She was accepted as a member of the North American Academy of Liturgy in 2010.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
