\u201cThrough Pope Francis, Christ has sent us a fresh spring wind in the Church,\u201d said Cardinal Christoph Sch\u00f6nborn at the Blessing of Palms in Vienna. One senses that \u201cChrist is with us along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardinal Sch\u00f6nborn summarized his impressions of the first days of the new pope in Rome, saying that what so moved the people in St. Peter\u2019s Square about Pope Francis is his \u201csimplicity, humility, and straightforwardness.\u201d He added, \u201cHumility makes us free.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sch\u00f6nborn said that the pope\u2019s freedom, sovereignty, and spontaneity comes from a deep source, from prayer. At table in St. Martha\u2019s House, Pope Francis told the Viennese archbishop that he gets up at 4:30 every day in order to have two hours of \u201cquiet time\u201d for prayer.<\/p>\n

Cardinal Sch\u00f6nborn concluded by saying, \u201cIn this spring-like atmosphere in the church, we may look full of joy at Christ, who shows us the way to life, beyond the Cross to Easter morning.\u201d<\/p>\n
