{"id":16178,"date":"2012-09-16T02:17:43","date_gmt":"2012-09-16T08:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=16178"},"modified":"2013-06-09T20:57:02","modified_gmt":"2013-06-10T02:57:02","slug":"a-wide-range-of-opinions-and-observations-about-the-roman-missal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2012\/09\/16\/a-wide-range-of-opinions-and-observations-about-the-roman-missal\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;&#8230;a wide range of opinions and observations about the Roman Missal&#8230;&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The newly-founded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uscatholicpriests.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Association of U.S. Catholic Priests<\/a> had its inaugural convention at St. Leo&#8217;s University (it&#8217;s Benedictine, btw) this past June. The organization has started rather vigorously, with over 750 members and some 250 at its first meeting. I was a key-noter, as was Dr. Richard Gaillardetz. At the encouragement of Fr. Michael Ryan, <a href=\"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2012\/07\/14\/association-of-us-catholic-priests-calls-for-reexamination-of-liturgical-translation\/\" target=\"_blank\">a resolution was passed<\/a> encouraging the U.S. bishops to use their full collegial authority in addressing the problems of <em>Liturgiam authenticam<\/em> (the translation\u00a0gyuidelines in force) and the new English missal.<\/p>\n<p>Now Cardinal Dolan, president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, has sent a friendly and sympathetic reply through the USCCB&#8217;s liturgy office. It reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cardinal Timothy Dolan, President of the USCCB, forwarded your letter of July 2, 2012, to me and asked me to respond on his behalf.\u00a0 The Committee on Divine Worship has received a great deal of feedback expressing a wide range of opinions and observations about the Roman Missal, Third Edition, and the catechetical process of preparation for its implementation.\u00a0 I am grateful for the feedback and the concerns of those who participated in the meeting of the Association of U.S. Catholic Priests earlier this year.\u00a0 I will share your letter and the resolution of AUSCP with the members of the Committee on Divine Worship in preparation for their next meeting in November, 2012 in Baltimore.\u00a0 I would be happy to discuss this with your further.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I gather the word has worked its way upward that something didn&#8217;t work in the whole missal saga. It is noteworthy that the cardinal&#8217;s response acknowledges\u00a0divergent opinions\u00a0and is respectful of the AUSCP for speaking up.
