{"id":12731,"date":"2011-12-14T11:10:01","date_gmt":"2011-12-14T17:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=12731"},"modified":"2011-12-16T00:45:23","modified_gmt":"2011-12-16T06:45:23","slug":"person-of-the-year-a-missed-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2011\/12\/14\/person-of-the-year-a-missed-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Person of the Year: A Missed Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it&#8217;s out. <em>Time <\/em>just announced the person of the year: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/person-of-the-year\/2011\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Protester<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And I was so sure <em>Time <\/em>would name the new missal the &#8220;Thing of the Year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ve been <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Time_Person_of_the_Year\" target=\"_blank\">stretching their categories<\/a> for some time now &#8211; the &#8220;Man of the Year&#8221; in 1975 was &#8220;The American Woman,&#8221; and in 1999 the title changed to &#8220;Person of the Year.&#8221; In 1982 the winner was &#8220;the computer,&#8221; in 1988 it was &#8220;endangered earth,&#8221; in 2006 it was &#8220;you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This was their chance to go to the next level. But no.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently when they selected &#8220;the protestor,&#8221; they didn&#8217;t even have in mind all those protesting the new missal- I asked.
