{"id":10194,"date":"2011-06-24T06:52:14","date_gmt":"2011-06-24T11:52:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=10194"},"modified":"2011-06-28T16:23:03","modified_gmt":"2011-06-28T21:23:03","slug":"solemnity-of-the-nativity-of-st-john-the-baptist-a-question-for-praytell-bloggers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2011\/06\/24\/solemnity-of-the-nativity-of-st-john-the-baptist-a-question-for-praytell-bloggers\/","title":{"rendered":"Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist &#8212; A question for PrayTell Bloggers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I take today&#8217;s\u00a0Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist &#8212; unusual in that it celebrates the\u00a0birth of a saint rather than the day of his death,\u00a0important in that it foreshadows\u00a0Christmas by six month, and richly blessed with\u00a0popular devotional practices\u00a0(at least in the past) &#8212;\u00a0to raise a question about how <em>Pray Tell <\/em>bloggers themselves mark liturgical time.<\/p>\n<p>I find myself\u00a0taken aback when I go to <em>Pray Tell <\/em>on an important liturgical day to find some wisdom for the living of the day, only to find\u00a0some posting\u00a0over missal shtuff [pardon my personal short-hand for this\u00a0subject] or some completely unrelated\u00a0humor or anything else oblivious\u00a0to the importance of the day in the liturgical calendar.<\/p>\n<p>I am not raising this issue in the spirit of a\u00a0more-liturgical-than-thou\u00a0attitude.\u00a0 My concern is with how we, as participants on a liturgical blog, mark or occlude\u00a0a foundational\u00a0feature of our\u00a0liturgical tradition, namely, how it\u00a0spells time and rhythm in our lives, including our lives in the contemporary blogosphere.\u00a0\u00a0I would welcome some thoughts on that.<\/p>\n<p>And I hope you all have a blessed Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My concern is with how we, as participants on a liturgical blog, mark or occlude a foundational feature of our liturgical tradition, namley how it spells time and rhythm in our lives, including our lives in the contemporary blogosphere.
