Trump Will Attend Mother Angelica’s Funeral

Pray Tell has learned from inside the Donald Trump campaign, by a circuitous route with unlikely connections bordering on the miraculous, that Trump will attend the funeral Mass being held today in Alabama for Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation.

“People say I have a woman problem, they’re wrong,” Trump said. “No one knows and loves Sister, or Mother, whatever, Angie more than me. She’s a leader, and I was the first to call it. I knew she was going places. I called it. I said, ‘She’s gonna make Catholicism great again.’

“Look at the tabernacle and monstrance at her shrine– yeah, I know all about that stuff. They’re yuuge, like they’re outta Trump Tower. Pushes the altar in the shadows. Lotta people don’t know it, but I had this crazy outsized influence on her. It’s cuz I’m a leader.

“Some people think you have to know stuff, details and facts and history, to lead. They’re losers. You just gotta land your message, like you’re punching something, and people follow. It’s what people need.”

Jeffery Tucker, who is associated with the Libertarian Party in Alabama, told Pray Tell that Mother Angelica knew how to channel grassroots anger better than anyone else. “In AmChurch, lefty bureaucrats used to run everything. It’s a free church again in many ways, and that’s largely because of her.”

Officials at EWTN and Mother’s Franciscan monastery declined to comment on Trump’s presence at the funeral.

  1. Trump is reported to have opined that the new translation of the Missal “has all the best words.”

You forgot to mention that Trump is embracing Tucker’s 10-point proposal for work-for-sacraments-reform in the Catholic, because he agrees about the moral hazard risks of the Cross.

Good piece for the Feast of St. April the Fool. Thanks.

Upon entering Our Lady of the Angels cathedral, Trump immediately branded it “fat, ugly” and could not fathom how such a heralded architectural masterpiece would be without a single gold plated furnishing. “Who is this guy Moneo that designed this thing? Was he even born in the U.S.? How about these kids on the wall tapestries? They look like they should be deported. I’ll tell you this: if I was the boss of the boss of the nation’s largest archdiocese, I would have two words for him: ‘you’re fired.’ The people there should give him ZERO obedience.”

Trump says that Vatican II was a horrible deal and if he’s elected he will negotiate a much better deal. The church doesn’t win anymore..we are getting beat by the curia and there are no good deals anymore and it’s going to be great again. Just watch…:)

All I can say is this was a great april fools day story. I just hope Americans won’t be fooled by Trump and his brand of politics….
I am supporting a decent, caring, proven leader out of Ohio: John Kasich .

I am contrite. I should not have spewed venom at Mother Angelica as I have previously done on PTB. Although I am certain that politicians (perhaps not Donald Trump, but others) have attended her funeral, this is not relevant.

Mother Angelica had, and ETWN has, admirers and detractors from across the Catholic liturgical spectrum. Despite this, I have compared Mother Angelica to Margaret Thatcher. Like Thatcher, Mother Angelica exerted great power in an arena up until that point controlled by men. Certainly both Thatcher’s and Mother Angelica’s policies were unpopular (even rabidly so) among many people. And yet, Mother Angelica, like Margaret Thatcher, must be given respect for her breakthrough achievements.

The Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville is beautiful, and proof that Catholic churches built today need not look like auditoriums.

While I render credit to Mother Angelica for her entrepreneurship, her nasty and judgmental persona outweighs her accomplishments. What’s sad is that she seemingly became the stereotype of the nuns of her youth whom she despised. Having watched her shows numerous times, I so wanted to like Mother Angelica and embrace her message, but her cringe worthy diatribes proved to be too much for me. In the spirit of Christian charity, may Mother Mary Angelica rest in peace.

It should be noted that the shrine and Trump’s properties have similar architectural language.
