GOSPEL COMMUNION: Sacred Heart of Jesus

June 24 2022 : Sacred Heart of Jesus

The two options for the Communion Antiphon in the Missal relate to Year B of the cycle. Given that in Year C the theme of the 1st Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation and Gospel is Christ the Good Shepherd, it seemed more appropriate to derive the Psallite antiphon for this day from Ezekiel 34:15-16, part of today’s 1st Reading.

If an allusion to the image of blood and water flowing from the side (heart) of Christ is desired, the antiphon for Pentecost Sunday, with its second half “Streams of living water shall flow from within you”, could substitute, and is in the same key as today’s antiphon.

Today’s verses are taken from Ezekiel 36 and 34.

A demo recording will be found here.
